The Master Gardener at Making A Difference Foundation will play a pivotal role in driving our community gardening initiatives and education programs. This position is designed for an experienced gardener who is passionate about sustainable practices and community engagement. The Master Gardener will lead the cultivation of various crops and flowers, ensuring that our gardens thrive and serve as a source of food and education for the community.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and overseeing the garden plan, including crop rotation, planting schedules, and maintenance strategies
- Training and supervising volunteers and community members in gardening techniques
- Implementing sustainable gardening practices to enhance soil health and promote biodiversity
- Organizing workshops and educational programs to teach community members about gardening, nutrition, and sustainable practices
- Monitoring plant health, managing pests, and ensuring optimal growing conditions
- Keeping detailed records of planting, maintenance, and harvest yields
- Collaborating with local organizations, schools, and community groups to foster relationships and promote gardening initiatives
- Participating in community outreach activities to raise awareness of the foundation's mission and gardening programs
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in gardening or horticulture, with a strong understanding of plant biology and sustainable practices
- Master's Gardener certification preferred or equivalent experience
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience in managing volunteers
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Physical ability to perform gardening tasks, including lifting and working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Passion for community service and education in sustainable gardening practices
