The Department of Cannabis Control is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated individual that wants to work in a multi-tasking environment. The Department’s mission is to develop and implement progressive cannabis policies and license and regulate commercial cannabis activity in a way that best protects public health, safety, the environment, and local communities throughout the State of California.

Under the general direction of the Environmental Program Manager (EPM) II of the Laboratory Services Branch (Branch), part of the Compliance Division (Division), within the Department of Cannabis Control (Department), the Research Scientist (RS) III (Food and Drug Sciences [FDS]) will be responsible for ensuring that all laboratory data and testing processes are secure, compliant with regulatory standards, and supported by thorough documentation. The incumbent will oversee risk management, staff training, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with both quality and information security best practices in an assigned region; however, may be required to conduct business throughout the State of California (State). The incumbent will be the point of contact and be responsible for International Organization for Standardization and International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 for the Branch.

What you'll do:

• Lead scientific quality assurance. Develop and implement quality assurance procedures, evaluate testing methods, and collaborate with staff to meet rigorous standards.

• Uphold ISO/IEC 17025 standards. Act as the key liaison for accreditation, oversee internal and external audits, and maintain compliance through thorough documentation.

• Ensure data integrity. Conduct staff training on data security, review and release Certificates of Analysis, and guarantee the accuracy of testing results.

• Perform critical data analysis. Compile and monitor lab data to provide management with reports on validity and assist in investigations using state-wide tracking systems.

Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) - Title 11, section 703 (d) of the California Code of Regulations requires criminal record checks of all personnel who have access to CORI. Pursuant to this requirement, applicants for this position will be required to submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice and be cleared before hiring. In accordance to CORI procedures, clearance shall be maintained while employed in a CORI-designated position. Additionally, the position routinely works with sensitive and confidential issues and/or materials and is expected to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of documents and topics pertaining to individuals or to sensitive program matters at all times.

Conflict of Interest (COI) - This position is subject to COI Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st, and within 30 days of leaving office.

Travel - The incumbent is required to travel throughout an assigned geographical area by various methods of transportation.
